I think that turtles have become the most popular of all the wild animals out there. I base that more than anything on the fact that they have become the most requested animal in my collection. I am fortunate to live in an area where several types of sea turtle come to nest. I often go down to a turtle nesting beach late at night and depending upon the time of year I will see big turtles come to shore to lay their eggs or at other times witness the little hatchlings come crawling up out of the sand and head for the sea. A few years ago I started developing a process for the cast of art glass. Learning the process was a long and winding road. There are no books and no classes on how to do what I wanted to do, so I took what I knew about casting gold and silver and eventually figured out how to cast glass into the molds that I had been using for gold. These wonderful odd shaped turtle eggs were one of the ideas I most wanted to create first The glass does such a better job of recreating what the eggs really look like, than if I had made them in gold. They have sort of a flimsy soft texture about them. Turtle eggs are not at all like the hard shell of the chicken eggs we all know.

Life has got to be a little more fun with one of these hatching baby turtles hanging around your neck.
